How does the capacitor discharge welder determine the thickness of the welded workpiece?

The energy storage welder functions by tapping into the electrical power present in the grid, which is stored within its own capacitor(equivalent to a rechargeable battery). This energy is then utilized for welding purposes, whereby the welder directly obtains power from the capacitor.

Therefore, the capacitance performance of the energy storage welder plays a crucial role in determining the welder's quality. When welding on two or more different thicknesses of the same metal, the effective welding thickness ratio is primarily determined by the thickness of the workpieces on each side of the weld.

When performing spot welding on two thin carbon steel sheets, the thickness ratio should be 4:1. For spot welding three thin sheets, the thickness ratio of the two plates on both sides should not exceed 2.5:1. In case the thickness ratio exceeds the recommended figure, appropriate measures should be taken such as changing the electrode format or composition, etc., to ensure the weld penetration rate of both sides of the weld.

The recommended minimum weld penetration rate for thin plates is 10%, whereas for thick parts, it should be between 20%-30%. When performing spot welding on a three-layer plate, the recommended distance between the dots is 30% greater than that for spot welding a two-layer thick plate.
