What aspects need to be considered when selecting inverter welder?

1、General questions

The inverter welder is selected first and foremost to meet the needs of the welding process. From this point of view, the inverter welder can be selected by referring to the welding machine selection principles in general welding manuals or textbooks. In principle, the inverter welder can be applied to all welding application requirements. In terms of welding current range, the inverter welder is capable of precision plasma welding from a few dozen amperes to several thousand amperes of submerged arc welding. In terms of welding process performance, the inverter welder can meet the requirements from normal DC and AC welding to pulsed DC and pulsed AC and even mixed AC and DC welding. Therefore, it can be said that the inverter welder can be chosen not only for any welding application, but also for certain welding processes only.

2、Use environment of inverter welder

At present, the inverter welder can adapt to the working environment of the general plant, but the following two issues need to be considered when choosing the inverter welder.

(1) The use environment of rain, wet and conductive dust: At present, the inverter welder can work in these harsh environments, but users need to make special suggestions when choosing the inverter welder, because not all inverter welder can meet these design requirements. Select an inverter welder with a high protection level, such as IP23 or above.

(2) Using a low-power generator for power supply: The inverter welder can be used for generator power supply, but when the generator power is less than three times the power output of the welder, the selection of the inverter welder needs to be specially proposed. There is no industry technical standard for choosing an inverter welder with high resistance to overpressure shocks, but some large domestic inverter welder manufacturers can provide such products.

3、Consider the power device of inverter welder

At present, the inverter welder uses the following power devices: MOS and IGBT, which can be divided into modules and single tubes, such as IGBT single tubes and IGBT modules. Although MOS also has modules, but the actual use of less. MOS is mainly single tube. Some users will consider better equipment when choosing an inverter welder. However, from a technical point of view, these devices do not have a direct or unique impact on the inverter welder.

Therefore, choosing an inverter welder from among power devices is a very complex technical issue that requires expertise in many areas and even sufficient knowledge of the product's manufacturing process. So it is not recommended for the welder user to consider equipment issues when choosing an inverter welder, which would lead to some misunderstandings.

4、The choice of digital inverter welder

First of all, it should be pointed out that from a scientific or technical point of view, the reference to a digital inverter welder is not accurate because the essence of a welder is a power supply. From the perspective of a power supply, its output can only be analog, not digital.

Therefore, from a strictly physical concept, it is impossible for a welder to be digital. The so-called digital inverter welder uses only programmable digital devices in the control section. The so-called fully digital and semi-digital only distinguish whether the PWM controller of the inverter part of the welding machine industry is controlled by software programming. In summary, the digital inverter welder is more of a commercial expression than a technical classification.

Digital technological improvements in the performance of inverter welding machines are reflected in: welding expert systems, multi-purpose pulse MIG and spatter-free short-circuit transition control. The highest technological component is the spatter-free short-circuit transition control, but this can easily be overlooked by users.
